Simple Gravy: (Better than Dads Gravy😘)

This one goes out to my dad! The story goes… One day mom was not home and dad needed to make dinner for him and the kids (four girls). Yes, dad knows how to cook with exception of gravy. Bless his heart, he did everything he thought was right until it was served. We all tasted it and knew at that moment dad should never make gravy again. Oh, he didn’t! He told us he made it just like mom does, but what mom doesn’t do, that dad did, was used something other than flour (or even cornstarch as some may use). Yup, we are all still talking about it 😁 and the story will never die! We still love you dad, but let us make the gravy next time.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups broth
  • 4 tbsp butter , unsalted
  • 4 tbsp flour , plain / all purpose
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder (ok to omit or sub garlic powder)
  • 1/4 tsp finely ground black pepper
  • Salt , if needed

Direction:

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add flour, onion powder and pepper. Mix into butter with a wooden spoon or whisk.
  • While stirring, slowly pour in half the broth. Once incorporated into the flour butter roux (it will thicken quickly), add remaining liquid and mix.
  • Stir for about 2 minutes until it thickens to a gravy consistency. Taste, add more salt and pepper if needed.
  • Serve
